Supporting 211, Protecting Medicaid & SNAP, Strengthening The Child Tax Credit

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 07, 2025) – Today, United Way Lamoille County's Board Vice President Sam Lotto and Executive Director Clarissa French joins nearly 400 colleagues on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., as part of United Way Worldwide’s annual Advocacy Forum and Hill Day. United Way Worldwide, one of the world’s oldest and largest charitable nonpartisan organization is bringing United Way leaders from across the U.S. to the nation’s capital to advance United Way’s federal priorities and urge members of Congress to take action to strengthen solutions to today’s pressing issues in our communities. With representation across all 50 states serving 95 percent of communities in the U.S., United Way mobilizes communities nationwide to rise above challenges and expand opportunities for individuals and families.

In 2025, top UWW policy priorities include:

• Encouraging federal funding be provided to strengthen 211, the 3-digit helpline for access to health and human services that fielded 16.8 million requests for help last year across the U.S. last year.

• Protecting Medicaid and SNAP, which provides health care and food to millions of vulnerable Americans.

• Strengthening the Child Tax Credit, which has helped middle-class and low-wage families with children and provided tax relief.

• Congress should protect SNAP and Medicaid from cuts or other harmful changes to ensure these programs continue helping our most vulnerable neighbors.

• Take action now to protect these programs.
