Vermont Asylum Assistance Project (VAAP)

Vermont Asylum Assistance Project (VAAP) is a legal services and technical assistance organization that exists to raise Vermont noncitizens’ awareness of and access to critical immigration legal help and support.

We achieve our mission through statewide direct service delivery, pro bono coordination, peer support, community education, and administrative and legislative advocacy.

Serving as a bridge between service providers and regulators across the state and region, VAAP educates the public on immigration issues and advocates for policies and practices that advance immigrants’ rights.

United Immigrant & Refugee Communities of Vermont

United Immigrant & Refugee Communities (UIRC) of Vermont INC was established in response to witnessing the constant widening gap between immigrants and refugees in the state, and the existing agencies or organizations that are intended to support them. These gaps led some immigrant and refugee families and individuals relocate to other states in the nation in search for better help and services for themselves and loved ones. Our agency helps these vulnerable folks in any way possible, and at times be the bridge between them and the service providers. With our services, our agency can be very helpful, resourceful, and impactful to the immigrant, the refugee, and the asylee community members it serves in our State in any possible way.

Their programs and services:

Interpretation & Translation Services with the UIRC Language Services, New Americans Case Management Services, Youth and Family Support Services, Bridging New Americans to Health Care Services, Citizenship & English Classes for the New Americans and Advocacy and Policy Support

Migrant Justice:

Their mission is to build the voice, capacity, and power of the immigrant farmworker community to organize for economic justice and human rights. They bring together community members to analyze shared problems and envision collective solutions. Through an ongoing investment in leadership development, Migrant Justice members deepen their skills and knowledge to organize for long-term, systemic change.

Vermont Language Justice Project

Working to make information accessible for everyone. The Vermont Language Justice Project allows people with language access needs the ability to make informed decisions about their health and safety, as well as navigating everyday life in the USA. We do this by creating public service videos  in 21 of the languages spoken here in Vermont. This media is co-produced with trusted community members from Vermont’s refugee, migrant, and immigrant communities.
